Benefits of cancer-specialized outpatient cancer rehabilitation services
This presentation examines the significant benefits of cancer-specialized outpatient rehabilitation services in improving health-related quality of life (HRQOL) for adults living with and beyond cancer. Despite upwards of 60% of cancer survivors reporting unmet functional needs and diminished HRQOL, only about 2% utilize rehabilitation services. Through a series of retrospective studies, Dr Wood explores the potential impact of these services.
Using data from 4,121 medical records across 13 cancer types, the study analyses HRQOL outcomes such as global physical health, mental health, physical functioning, and participation in social roles. Results show significant improvements in HRQOL for various cancers, including breast, head and neck, lung, prostate, colorectal, and more.
By highlighting the crucial role of outpatient cancer rehabilitation, this presentation emphasizes how increased service utilization can address functional needs and enhance survivors' quality of life.

Combating Cancer Related Fatigue with Exercise
Exercise during and after cancer treatment can improve your body's chemistry, making it less hospitable to cancer growth. Studies show that exercise boosts immune cell circulation to fight cancer. While it may feel counterintuitive to move when fatigued, finding motivation and learning how to safely exercise can help you stay active throughout your cancer journey.
2Unstoppable educates women on the importance of movement, offering guidance on how to start exercising and make it fun, even when experiencing treatment side effects. Join us to safely return to movement with evidence-based approaches, no matter where you are in your cancer journey.

Trauma Informed Holistic Occupational Therapy Approach for Oncology Population
This presentation explores a holistic, trauma-informed approach to occupational therapy for cancer patients, focusing on the Occupational Adaptation Practice Model. It addresses the impact of polytrauma, including radiation fibrosis and lymphedema, and the role of oncology fascia. The model integrates sensorimotor, cognitive, and psychosocial aspects, aiming to balance functional skills with a patient's environment and experience. Specialized oncology fascia management techniques help improve patient outcomes by reducing scarring and trauma-related conditions, enhancing functional abilities, and supporting overall recovery.
